Event Summary:
Multi-award winning director Tony Palmer presents his film about William Walton, a revealing and moving portrait of the great composer. Supported by archive material, extracts from many of his works and interviews with Lady Susanna Walton, Laurence Olivier and Sacheverell Sitwell, Walton reflects on his own journey from Oldham to his island home on Ischia Italy where he died in 1983.
Featuring performances by Yehudi Menuhin, Julian Bream, Iona Brown, Ralph Kirshbaum, Yvonne Kenny, John Shirley-Quirk, Carmen de Sautoy and the Philharmonia Orchestra conducted by Simon Rattle.
