Indulge in an enchanting night of late-evening jazz, where the intimate ambience of the dimly lit St. Mary’s sets the stage for a mesmerising experience. Standard Deviation, a dynamic six-part vocal ensemble that brings the spirit of legendary groups like New York Voices, The Real Group, and Take 6 to life.
Standard Deviation are a jazz vocal ensemble inspired by the vocal traditions of New York Voices, The Real Group and Take 6. The group was established in 2021 and have been singing in six-part harmony ever since. Based in London, they perform all over the UK at jazz venues and festivals. A particular highlight has been a sold-out debut at Jazz @ Pizza Express, Soho in 2023. The ensemble regularly collaborates with other groups and artists.
They recently collaborated with the Harry Baker Trio at Notting Hill Arts Club, and shared a stage with the Sam Every Big Band for a Christmas extravaganza at EartH, Hackney. In early 2025, Standard Deviation released their debut album, recorded at Soho Sonic Studios.
Harry Baker brings his Trio to Barnes Music Festival, following performances across London’s jazz scene and a sell-out set at Vortex Jazz Club. The Trio’s dynamic mix of jazz originals and standards, folk and classical music draws on Baker’s eclectic international experience with cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason, vocalist Fatma Said and singer-songwriter Zak Abel, alongside his firm presence on the jazz circuit. Recent touring highlights include the Konzerthaus Berlin, the Edinburgh International Festival (broadcast for BBC Radio 3) and the Lucerne Festival, Switzerland.
As they step into 2025, Standard Deviation celebrates the release of their debut album, recorded at Soho Sonic Studios, showcasing their refined sound and expert in-house arrangements of songs by Esperanza Spaulding, Leonard Bernstein and George Gershwin.
