Join charismatic choral leader Ben Parry, a live band, and a backing choir with singers from local schools for an afternoon rehearsing and performing Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s iconic musical, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
It is little known that Colet Court, located just down the road from Barnes, played an essential role in the history of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. The musical was originally commissioned and performed by the boys of Colet Court School, debuting as a 15-minute pop cantata in the school’s Old Assembly Hall in 1968. Following performances featuring Colet Court students at Central Hall, Westminster and St Paul’s Cathedral, the musical’s first commercial recording catapulted it onto the US charts, where it remained for three consecutive months in 1969 and subsequently became the Broadway sensation we know today. The school has since revived the play for its annual school production several times.
Enthusiasm is all you need and participants of all ages and abilities are welcome. Dressing up is optional!
Choral conductor Ben Parry brings wide experience of leading choirs of all types across many music styles. After singing with the King’s College Cambridge Choir, he joined the Swingle Singers, touring all round the world, performing with some of the world’s greatest musicians. He has taught at St Paul’s School and at the Junior Royal Academy of Music as well as being Artistic Director of the National Youth Choirs of Great Britain.
