The Schools Concert is the culmination of a creative project with local primary schools during which the children learn a piece that they perform during the Festival. It has become an integral part of the Festival with our goal being to involve and in some cases introduce primary-aged children to the joy of music-making of high quality.
The theme of Gustav’s Great Galactic Adventure will be a fun tribute to the much-loved and most famous of Gustav Holst’s compositions, The Planets. At the heart of the concert will be Peter Gritton’s Trip to Mars, a dangerous and fraught symphonic piece determined by chance. Other classic pieces connected with astronomy, astrology and space travel including Bluemoon, Fly me to the moon and When you wish upon a star.
