Event Summary:
Hosted by the choir of St Michael & All Angels Church Barnes, Hilary Campbell leads a Come and Sing of Henry Purcell’s beautiful three-act opera, Dido and Aeneas, recounting the great love that Dido, Queen of Carthage, has for Trojan hero, Aeneas, leading to her despair when he abandons her. Hilary is a brilliant and award-winning British choral conductor, and the role of Aeneas is sung by Owen Elsley, an international Australian singer, conductor, composer and pianist, who became Director of Music of St Michael’s Barnes in September 2024.
All singers are welcome, but an ability to read music will be advantageous. The day begins at 12 noon and finishes after a scratch performance at around 5.00pm which friends and family are welcome to attend
