Event Summary
Internationally acclaimed violinist Tamsin Waley-Cohen has performed with orchestras including the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the Czech Philharmonic. She has also played at the Wigmore Hall and Concertgebouw with her quartet, The Albion Quartet. She is joined by pianist Cordelia Williams, who broadcasts regularly for BBC radio 3 and is known for her remarkable understanding of the works of Schubert and Schumann.

In a programme inspired by music Clara Wieck-Schumann played and loved, Cordelia and Tamsin bring some of the music that they feel closest to together in this intensely romantic programme which is both highly virtuosic and simultaneously intimate.
Opening with Clara’s exquisite first ‘Romance’, followed by Robert Schumann’s volcanic second sonata was considered by Joseph Joachim to be amongst his greatest work, and he played it extensively on recital tours with Clara.

Mendelssohn is at his most touchingly lyrical in this beautiful Kreisler arrangement of his ‘Song Without Words’ and Tamsin and Cordelia conclude the programme with Schubert’s late masterpiece, his Fantasie. An integral part of the programme will be readings of letters written by the composers, about and to each other,  which is a fantastic way to get inside their lives and minds.
