Event Summary:
With a hey, and a ho, and a hey nonny no, from Verdi to Cole Porter, from Mendelsohn to William Walton to Benjamin Britten (with a bit of West Side Story and The Return to the Forbidden Planet along the way) this is a celebration of Shakespeare’s music – the songs he wrote, the music he inspired. Pianist/singer/actor/cabaret star Stefan Bednarczyk (most recently Feste & musical director for Twelfth Night at the Orange Tree in Richmond) joins Barnes Music Festival patron Gyles Brandreth (editor of The Oxford Book of Theatrical Anecdotes, host of the Rosebud podcast, and much besides) as they explore (and illustrate) more than five hundred years of music that might never have existed if it hadn’t been for William Shakespeare. ‘Play on!’
